Located behind a large Shell research facility, the Gramercy house is situated on a lot that precluded a typical builder solution. Because of the lot’s shape and setbacks, the building presents its broad side to the street. A design challenge was to fit the resulting 125’ façade into the streetscape. The front stone wall of the building extends past the envelope to enclose a courtyard that is oriented to mitigate the noise pollution from Shell’s physical plant.
